Members of the Verger team recently attended the 2024 NBOA Annual Meeting and were grateful for the opportunity to connect with and learn alongside members of the independent school community. Every year, this National Business Officers Association (NBOA) gathering provides an exciting forum to share expertise and innovative ideas, as well as promote collaboration across topics of business operations and capital management.
Verger was proud to be returning as a Silver Sponsor for the 2024 event, which was titled “Rooted in Excellence, Growing Together.” Common themes across keynotes and panels included the importance of resilient leadership and robust mission alignment in the face of disruption and change – all of which speak to Verger's core values.
Verger has been honored to be part of the NBOA community over the years, as part of our efforts to act as an extension of our independent school and higher education clients’ staff. NBOA: Business Leadership for Independent Schools is a unique, non-profit membership association focused exclusively on supporting independent school business officers and business operations staff, and it serves an important role in promoting and evolving industry best practices. Pictured below are highlights from the conference including: (clockwise from left) Matthew Annenberg from the Packer Collegiate Institute during a breakout session, inspiring keynote speaker Bertice Berry, Verger team members Liz Laughter and Inge Smith enjoying some fun in the photo booth, and our team connecting with Martha Moore from the Boyce L. Ansley School at Verger's booth in the exhibitor hall.
Verger was a Silver Sponsor of the annual meeting for the second consecutive year. At last year’s annual meeting, Verger partnered with NBOA Gives Back to support the Freedom Writers Foundation, which mitigates student dropout rates by providing educators with tools to empower all students to succeed. This year, Verger partnered with NBOA on the NBOA Gives Back program to fundraise and amplify the work of Atlanta non-profit, The Boyce L. Ansley School. The only one of its kind in the Southeast, this tuition-free private school provides a holistic approach to education for children experiencing homelessness, including programs that address the unique traumas associated with experiencing homelessness.
Verger applauds the school’s important work, and NBOA’s platform for raising awareness and funds for this unique philanthropy. A corporate donation, along with individual donations, led to a combined impact of approximately $12,000 for the Boyce L. Ansley School.
During 2023, over 20% of The Boyce L. Ansley School’s families gained stable employment and housing by the end of the school year. In 2024, The school is looking to increase its capacity and assist families beyond emergent and basic needs. For example, the school is striving for a parent program that offers scholarships, homeownership assistance, and professional skills training to truly reverse the cycle of poverty.
Verger applauds the school’s important work, and NBOA’s platform for raising awareness and funds for this unique philanthropy. Partnering with the NBOA Gives Back program is a powerful way for Verger to contribute to the independent school community and further our mission – to invest in the lives of others. We are delighted that our donation was matched by NBOA as part of the NBOA Gives Back program, and in addition, during the meeting there was an opportunity for attendees to make individual donations. On top of this, other corporate attendees were inspired to contribute, and this along with individual donations led to a combined impact of over $12,000 for the Boyce L. Ansley School.
At Verger, our client service model is built on three pillars: Engage, Integrate, and Educate. These pillars are the foundation on which the Verger team strives to be an extension of our non-profit clients' staff. This work includes providing support to the advancement offices of our independent school and higher education clients. Conferences and industry gatherings are an important tool for continued learning and collaborating, and we enjoy attending alongside our clients and partners.
Please join Verger in thanking the organizers and attendees of the 2024 NBOA Annual Meeting for the opportunities to connect and learn, and, importantly, spotlight the hard, behind-the-scenes work that generates positive impact for schools, students, and communities.
